Rain Garden 101

  • Oak Park Public Library 834 Lake Street Oak Park, IL, 60301 United States (map)

From Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory

Jerry Hossli, University of IL Extension Master Gardener, Composter and Naturalist will introduce the group to Rain Gardens. Rain gardens are shallow, constructed depressions planted with deep-rooted native plants and grasses.

You will learn the basics of rain gardening design, as well as how to build and plant a rain garden. The talk will also cover water conservation and identifying what native plants work best in these types of gardens. Installing a rain garden is an inexpensive, simple to implement and environmentally sound solution to residential and urban stormwater runoff.
