The GreenBuilt Home Tour offers you a look inside 18 sustainable, energy-saving homes in Northern Illinois, and allows you to meet the builders, designers, and homeowners who made these homes possible. This all takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4.
The tour features two categories of homes: Twelve Certified Green Homes, meaning that third parties have verified their adherence to nationally recognized standards (you can visit these homes on either day of the tour), and six Green Renovation Homes, meaning that owners have embedded sustainable features into green projects (you can visit these on Saturday only). The full list of homes, with descriptions and addresses appears here: https://www.greenbuilthometour.org/2019-featured-homes/
To be selected for the tour, all homes must be pursuing or have received one or more green-home-program certifications or verifications. Visit the tour’s website for a list of the 11 certifiers, with descriptions of each: https://www.greenbuilthometour.org/home/programs/
The tour website provides a map showing all locations—some in Chicago and the rest in Chicago suburbs, the closest to Oak Park/River Forest/Forest Park being LaGrange, LaGrange Highlands, and Downers Grove. https://www.greenbuilthometour.org/map2019/
A $20 Passport Tickets admits two for unlimited visits to all homes featured on the tour for the entire tour weekend. A $5 ticket admits two to a single home featured on the tour. Single-home tickets will only be sold at the door during the tour weekend. Children under 18, accompanied by an adult, are admitted free.
