Update on July 11: Galewood House at 6909 W. Armitage will no longer be shown on the tour. Check out others such as the West Town GreenStar Retrofit at 2219 W. Cortez St. and +Plus House at 919 W. Cullerton St., both in Chicago.
The 5th annual GreenBuilt Home Tour will feature at least 12 homes around Chicagoland that are "built tight and vented right." The tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23, and will showcase sustainable innovations in older and newer homes. (All are third-party verified to confirm they are constructed according to nationally recognized standards.)
For example, Galewood House at 6909 W. Armitage, in Chicago, is an EnergyStar rated home that also holds the DOE Zero Energy Ready designation. In this all new construction, the owner collaborated with builder, Greenline Homes, and each learned from the other.
Passport tickets are available to see all homes at $20 for two people. Individual homes can be viewed at $5 for two people. Tickets and more information are available here.
